Students who go through RCTV’s courses come out excited to produce movies and TV Productions. What’s wonderful about RCTV’s classes is that they give you a great basic foundation to get started. And typically, the more you shoot or edit, the better you get. But at some point, you may reach a point where you want to open doors for which you don’t have the keys. Many people who may not have the time or financial wherewithal to attend classes at a university level turn to Youtube. While Youtube can be a wonderful resource for finding how to do specific things and to resolve identified problems, sometimes, you want more in-depth training, from one consistent perspective… and preferably by an expert.
Below are resources where you can ratchet up a variety of skills involved in producing film:
- Lynda – Lynda continually adds to its course offerings and there are currently over 560 courses in all aspects of video production and post-production, amounting to over 22,000 video tutorials created by industry experts. Courses are offered at basic membership levels of $24.99/mo. for basic membership (or $19.99 monthly for a total annual membership fee of $239.88) or $34.99/ mo. for premium level membership (which comes to $29.99 monthly for a total annual membership fee of $359.88).
- Udemy – Udemy is a great resource for all types of online classes, far beyond video production and post-production. Each course is a multi-episode (usually between 10 and 70 video episodes) presentation taught by a pro. Topics range from screenwriting and editing to legal guides and filmmaking. The first class is priced at $24, and classes can be done at your own speed.
- Videomaker – Positioned as “the premiere magazine for professional and hobbyist videography.” Also available through Videomaker are online video courses and a forum on a variety of topics. All courses are focused exclusively on some aspect of making a video. Some video course segments are free for non-members, but for access to much of the site, membership is required, and starts at $2.50/ mo. or $20/year to $26.50/ mo. or $240/ yr. Depending on your level of membership, you can access from 3 courses for free to all of the training courses.
