RCTV’s Communications Intern Carly Lonczak is a Junior at SUNY Brockport. There, she is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations, and a minor in Women’s Studies. Completely by chance, RCTV’s General Manager Carvin Eison is her Advisor at Brockport, which no one realized until after Carly had started working with RCTV.
When younger, Carly wanted to be a veterinarian, but she also always enjoyed writing. When considering what to study in college, she turned to a field where she could use her writing skills.
While working as an intern in a radio station, she discovered that she really didn’t enjoy the stress of straight journalism. So, inspired by her older sister who works in PR, she decided to focus her concentration on publicity and public relations.
“I hope to become a publicist for a political figure, but the door is open,” she shared. “I also like to write and blog.
“There’s so much to do in publicity and PR. A lot takes place behind the scenes that is really important.”
In addition to working as an intern for the radio station and for RCTV, where she is always enthusiastic to try doing anything and gather as much experience as possible, Carly has interned for the BOCES PR Office. During 2015, she interned as a blogger who also had the responsibility of covering events for the blogsite Hoboken Girl. As a big pet lover, she grins when she admits that one of her favorite beats there was to cover the “Adoptable Pet of the Week.”
When asked about her advice for others who might want to intern at RCTV (or elsewhere, for that matter), she shared, “Be up for anything, and learn all you can! You can learn a variety of things you might not have the opportunity to pick up in school. The great thing is that everyone wants you to learn and wants to help you be successful.”
Please join us in welcoming Carly as RCTV’s Spring Communications Intern.
