If you’ve decided to seek funding for your media project and you discover that you need affiliation with a fiscal sponsor, below are organizations that do just that. If these organizations find that your project is a good fit for their mission, they will consider you and your work for fiscal oversight. By providing oversight, your project is entitled to be designated as having non-profit status, and the door is suddenly open to many of the grants that are not available to individual artists. Most fiscal sponsors retain a percentage of the funding raised as their management fee.
Below are two comprehensive lists of fiscal sponsors:
- POV’s List of Fiscal Sponsors – POV provides a list of 21 Fiscal Sponsors with a media-oriented focus.
- Fiscal Sponsor Directory, by National Network of Fiscal Sponsors – Use NNFS’ Search engine to match your project by state and focus to a fiscal sponsor.
Please note that Fiscal Sponsorship requires a high level of documentation, and media creators are advised to partner with experienced Fiscal Sponsors that undertake sponsorship as part of their mission, rather to partner with inexperienced non-profits. For more information on Fiscal Sponsorship, read National Network of Fiscal Sponsors’ Guidelines for Comprehensive Fiscal Sponsorship.
