In 2016, RCTV, George Eastman Museum, Kids Out and About and Writers & Books partnered to bring the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival to Rochester, NY for a HUGE, FREE public screening of kids’ works at the Dryden Theatre. The event was SO successful, that we’re doing it again in 2017!
On Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 2 to 4 PM, James Kennedy, author of The Order of Odd-Fish, will again host one of the most exciting kids’ film festivals around, as part of the George Eastman Museum’s Dryden Kids Series. To provide a foil for Mr. Kennedy’s high-spirited antics, he has invited co-host, author Charles Benoit (author of Snow Job, You, Cold Call and Fall from Grace). The inimitable kids’ entertainer, Mr. Loops, will also make a guest appearance.
This will be the Sixth Anniversary of the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival, founded by James Kennedy to support and encourage both traditional and media literacy. The 90-second videos, submitted by kids nationally, are based on Newbery Honor or Award Books. They are done in any format the kids can come up with, including comedy, drama, musical, animation, claymation, puppetry and more!
The screening in Rochester will feature works by kids and teens from across Rochester, NY as well as top submissions from around the country! Some of the works by Rochester’s youth may be taken on tour to other cities as well.
Although attendance at the festival is FREE, you do need to make reservations so we can be sure we save a seat for you and your family members! Simply Click the box below to reserve your seats!
P.S. If you are an educator looking for a wildly entertaining and educational presentation, James Kennedy still has some limited spots left in his scheduled visit to Rochester, and we’d be happy to assist you in lining him up to do an author reading and presentation. Just send us a note.
