Pauline McCleary is the host and Executive Producer of Perspectives, a cable program that is broadcast on RCTV Monday evenings at 9 PM and Friday afternoons at 3:30 PM.
Her focus for the show is WoW, or Women of Wonder because, as she asserts, “Women carry so much on their shoulders… their careers, their children, their parents, their finances….”
She goes on to explain, “A man can walk away. Most women don’t. Their hands are always out to others, offering help. They are the backbone of the community, always giving and sharing. The purpose of this show is not to male bash, it’s to focus on the accomplishments of women.”
To fulfill that mandates, she invites community leaders with whom she covers the issues, challenges, rewards and success stories of women in and around Rochester. In recent programs, for example, some of the topics she and her guests have covered include the story of how five teenage moms successfully collaborated on a book, the issue of how to raise sons to be great men, the challenge of how to get men to focus on their health and go to the doctor, the question of whether there is a race or a justice problem and many more key issues.
In discussing the show, Pauline admitted that, at times, it’s difficult to find people who are willing to be open and candid about certain topics.
“A lot of women can’t talk about certain things because of work or personal issues. Some are afraid of losing a job or of losing funding.”
Yet Pauline always manages to ask provocative questions and receive thought-provoking responses from her guests — both women and men — who appear to talk about issues of education, careers, children, health and community issues.
Pauline welcomes community interaction, so if you have thoughts on a topic that’s been covered or ideas about an issue that you’d like to see Perspectives address, please share them through Perspectives facebook page, or contact Pauline through the website.
