On Saturday, June 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 PM, RCTV will host its annual Black Music Month Celebration at the Frederick Douglass Resource Center at 36 King Street in Rochester.
At 6:30 PM, the doors open to an evening of food, fun, friends festivities and entertainment, as RCTV presents an open mic competition.
Our host for the evening will be Rochester’s fabulous MC, Grand Tone. In addition to our “surprise” artists who will register on that night to perform songs, rap, poetry or spoken word, we’ll be featuring musicians Judah Sealy and Anthony Dounte and slam poet IQ the Great, who was selected to participate in the Brave New Voices Festival in Atlanta. RCTV will also award its Fifth Annual Black Achievement Music Award (BAMA) to a deserving musician who has demonstrated musical excellence and community contributions. At the end of the evening, a panel of judges will determine who wins the Grand Prize, the Second Place and the third place awards. Part of the fun will be that audience members also get to vote for the best performance, and the artist who receives the most audience votes will receive the “Audience Choice” award.

Requested donation: $5 per person, free for students 17 and under.
